A k a day in Lima Peru (Day 7)

Well who would have thought it? It seems like only yesterday when we were donning the lycra-wear for our first day of the challenge. Now we are a week into it and still going strong. With many more highs than lows we are set to face week 2.

Today saw us setting out towards the mighty Pacific Ocean and the lovely walkway that is the Malecon. It is a clifftop walkway that runs for many kilometres and lies between Lima and the ocean. There are vendors and it is extremely popular for exercise enthusiasts.

I am giving the Strava first today, it's our longest yet. We should be at 35km after 7 days but we are actually at 40.17km. Can you see the very pleased cheeky smile. And I have only fallen once so far!

First point of note on today's walk is the amazing tennis club. You might remember me saying that our walk along San Borja Norte was an area of greenery flanked by roads. Well this tennis club is similar. It lies on an area between the up road and the down road so to speak. Someone told us that is costs $50,000 to join this club.

I wouldn't be in the least surprised if that is correct. It has a swimming pool and a couple of squash courts. Very posh.

On the other side of the road we find the Clinica Good Hope. I remember laughing when I saw this first and thought, I would be preferring a more optimistic name than that.  Then I discovered that this is one of the main hospitals on our Insurance. I hope we never need it.

On to the Malecon itself and we start in Lovers Park. It should be pretty obvious from the statue what's happening here so I will gloss over any technicalities. Suffice to say the couple have been like that for some time and show no signs of giving in.

Note the mighty Pacific in the background. If you sailed due west from here you would find a pretty big puddle of water. You would skirt past the famous Galapagos Islands and meet practically nothing until you skim past the Soloman Islands and pass between Australia and Papua New Guinea.

One of the big attractions of the Malecon if you have the stomach for it, is paragliding from the clifftop. I understand that you can part with some of your hard earned cash and strap yourself to a little guy and he will take you soaring along the cliff edge. Personally I think I would love it when I was up there but something inside my head prevents me from opening my wallet. And that is nothing to do with being Scottish.

Walking along the Malecon brings spectacular views looking along the coastline.

I snapped a few other items of moderate interest but since I start work again on Monday and excursions are going to be limited to my local walks I thought I would save them and offer some "archive" images in the coming days.
