I can't believe that it is almost one week since we started this challenge. Let me remind you the purpose of the challenge is to get people moving to improve their health and it is in memory of Robert (Rab) Rowan a close friend of my daughter Ashley and kind of distant relation. Rab was only 28 when he suffered heart failure and we are raising funds for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). It is not a sponsored event, we have paid to take part.
So day 6 started in the middle to Lima right outside our school building. It's where I "used" to work. I went to upload the image and found that it is not there. Another senior moment. So todays route was one that we all walked regularly when we first arrived in Lima. We were in a house right beside the school and frequently walked into Miraflores to the shops. They have hire scooters available and alo hire bikes. Slowly but surely the city is becoming greener and facilities are being put in place.
We walked past the park where the old train is and managed to get a few images. The park is abasically a museum to the Battle of Miraflores which happened ... well a while ago.
Oh the train I mentioned the train.
The train is called the Presidente Leguia, named after one of the Peruvian Presidents of yester year. The carriage is the Buffet Carriage.
Leaving the park behind we crossed over the other main north south traffic artery The Republican Expressway. Like the Pan Americano it is very busy. Down the centre runs the express coach service which has its own lanes on the highway.
In the middle of town is a park called the Kennedy Park or at east it WAS called that. Today I noticed it seemed to be called 6 Julio Parque (The 6th of July Park) according to the signage. Anyway it is commonly called the "cat park" because it is home to dozens of cat that are fed by the locals. So for all you cat lovers out there
Alongside the cat park is a big colonial looking building of which there are many in Peru. It is the Miraflores Municipality Buildings. I guess the town house. It is a grand building.A brisk walk back to the car got us there in time to head off for our dentist experience.
Sheila found an English speaking dentist who seemed to do a great job. Follow up appointments are needed but it is not open wallet surgery here in Peru. Our ever present companion Strava told us that we had accomplished our mission for today. Tomorrow or Saturday I hope to take you down the Malecon to see the ocean for the first time. OOOOhhhh I'm too excited. Oh one last thing, if you see an old Volkswagen Beetle on your travels don't bother stopping to take a picture because there will be another along in a few minutes., There must be more VW Beetles per head of population here in Lima than anywhere else. Even Volkswagenland doesn't have this many.
