The day of the three parks walk. It was honestly my intention to drive a bit and show you some more of Lima but the roads today were back to their horrific best. Waze told me it was 45 minutes to get to the walk I had hoped to do along the ocean front. So you'll just have to make do with the three parks walk. So we set off south and cross Avenida Primavera and continued until we got to park 1.
The people in the background were all seated on the ground on a blanket and they were surrounded by lavish glasses, cutlery and dishes having what looked like a wedding spree or baby shower right there and then in the middle of a public park. They had clearly gone to some bother to get all that stuff there and looked like they were having a picnic banquet. I would have liked to have joined them if only to sample what was coming out of some of the bottles. The picture is a bit zoomed in because I did try to be surreptitious. Ooooh I love that word surreptitiously.
The other thing we found was that this park is home to a Saturday Market where the locals sell fabulous looking fruit and veg. That is one of out camera shy A k a day walkers with the purple T shirt and her back to us!
On the sign they are offering to deliver Carnes (meats) Res (beef) cerdo (pork) and pollo (chicken). You may also note from the green gazebos that we have crossed the border from our home precinct of San Borja and entered neighbouring Santiago de Surco.
This is day 15 after tomorrow we will be past half way in the challenge. I have tallied up the distance so far and we are now at 83.61 km which is 8.61 km ahead of target. Our somewhat elderly legs know that they have been working a bit harder than normal but they are none the worse for their experience
I am going to save the information about parks 2 and 3 until tomorrow because we found out more about a previous topic and we made a spectacular identification.
I will however, leave you with a memorable moment that happened today. All Two Ronnies fans will appreciate this. I have an experiment to perform with the students and so I needed some candle wax. So I looked up the translation and asked the guy in the ferreteria if he had cuatro velas. Guess what I got.
Four candles!!!
It seems there is no confusion between four candles and fork handles in Spanish
This is Dave Spittal reporting for A-k-a-day in Santiago de Surco, Lima Peru. Keep up the good work everyone. The Lima contingent is proud of you.
