Ringing the changes just a little today we were back to our joint walk and extended it a little to take in "Bike Shop Alley" to see if we could find me a bike. One of the interesting things we have found in Bahrain, Malaysia and here in Peru is that when you find one particular type of outlet you find lots of the same type together. And so it is in bike shop alley. There are numerous little bike shops but what we discovered is that whilst they have one or two bikes for sale each they generally are there for service and repair. So I haven't yet found a bike.
Sadly there were few photo ops on the trek but I did manage to photograph an unusual tree. It's latin name is cellfonicus masticus and it has quite an unusual bark. The trunk is always poker straight until you get to the branches which have a kind of plasticky sheen to their leaves. They only ever appear singly, never in copses, woods or forests. We did spot a very large flock of Saffron Finches but as usual by the time I managed to get the camera pointed in the right direction most of them had gone to bed. If you look carefully you can see some at the top of the picture.
Markham Collage celebrates its 75th Anniversary this year which co-incidentally is exactly the same as Alice Smith School in Kuala Lumpur where we worked before. I feel very lucky to have been able to work in both of these fantastic schools.
