Two and a half years later we are raising funds in Rab's memory by doing the "k a day in May" challenge. During May the people signed up to the challenge will walk, run, cycle (or whatever) their way towards their target. Not to be outdone by the younger members of the family we have signed up for the maximum 5k a day! Whose idea was that?
So it all began this beautiful May morning as we set of for day 1. We are full of enthusiasm and we had carefully selected a route that starts outside our apartment in San Borja, Lima, Peru.
We live directly opposite the Pentagonito which is the Army Headquarters (I think) for the Peruvian Army. It is certainly an army base. The perimeter is a lovely path and cycle way and it is VERY popular with walkers, cyclists, serious runners, joggers, shufflers and those that look quite frankly like they are not going to make it. Lycra clad with bits sticking out everywhere they amble their way around. Today is May day holiday in Peru so it was like the proverbial Sauchiehall Street on a Saturday afternoon. Super busy. The distance around is 4.2km so we have to make a slight detour (that's the wee sticky up pointy bit on the map) to get it up to 5k
I am hoping to give readers some idea what Lima is like and hope to do some of the walks in different areas but for today it was the Pentagonito Walk.
On our way round today we saw this massive poster and I thought how appropriate. "Tu actitud hace la diferencia - Your attitude makes the difference"
Here are some pics from the walk today.
I am not really sure who this guy is but he was obviously important enough to get a statue
One of the joggers. EVERYONE still has to wear a mask outside in Lima
It was much less busy on the detour part of our walk!
This last picture may seem a little ordinary and it is, but it hides a beautiful little secret. You will see it in the zoomed in image below.
Right in the middle was the prettiest little humming bird. It has stunning, almost kingfisher like colours although not so bright.
Well that is day 1 done and dusted. Tomorrow's 5k might be a little less exciting because on Sundays we are on TOTAL lockdown so will have to do our 5k in the apartment!
